Burns & McDonnell Senior Civil Engineer - Roanoke, VA in Norfolk, Virginia
Position includes site planning, grading design, drainage design, erosion control and stormwater pollution prevention design, and utility design for large scale development projects that may include a single build or multiple buildings. The candidate should have a proven history of adhering to clients’ and multiple local jurisdictions’ design standards and when they differ successfully advocating on behalf of the client. The candidate must be comfortable speaking to the public and public officials in formal and informal settings and possess the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience in such a way that the project needs and schedule can be met. The position will require working on multiple interdisciplinary project teams comprised of planners, landscape architects, MEP systems engineers, structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, architects, and contractors under aggressive completion schedules. The candidate is expected to lead multiple teams of less experienced engineers on large complex projects. Travel will be required. Progressive design and project management responsibilities. Some marketing responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from accredited program. Minimum 7 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience). Professional Engineer. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered. Previous consulting experience preferred. This position requires expert knowledge in aviation design.
